Research Areas

Prof. Xu's research spans six interconnected fields united by the 3M+MMR approach — Mapping, Measuring, and Modelling through Mixed Methods Research. The six areas are: CICI Studies (human-AI co-intelligence and co-innovation); Mobile Studies (mobile experience, news, health, and storytelling); Branding Studies (AI-driven brand strategy and trust); Mobile Storytelling (village, city, and nation narratives); Experience Studies (phygital and immersive brand journeys); and Global Communication (cross-cultural media and image). Together, these fields form a coherent research agenda that bridges academic rigour, industry application, and social impact.

Impact & Outreach

Prof. Xu applies the 3E+PIC service approach — Engaging, Empowering, and Enlightening through Passionate, Innovative, and Creative initiatives — to translate research into real-world impact. This section documents his work across four domains: Teaching (innovative pedagogy and AI-empowered education); Workshops & Consultancy (industry and community engagement); Outreach Projects (public scholarship and media contributions); and Gallery (visual documentation of scholarly activities). Together, these initiatives bridge the gap between academic rigour and societal benefit.
